Support the Sanctuary is a special event with funds raised going to the Sanctuary Mountain® Maungatautari.

Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari is New Zealand’s largest pest-proof fenced eco-sanctuary. Its ancient forest is home to many of New Zealand’s unique and endangered wildlife. Kākā, North Island saddleback, North Island robins and whitehead fill the forest with song. Around 3000 kiwi and three kākāpō also live on Maungatautari, as well as a growing population of tuatara and two families of South Island takahē.

The sanctuary requires support from the community to continue its important conservation work. We have special permission to use the monitoring lines on the mountain for the event. Because of the large expanse of bush and monitoring lines this event is not for inexperienced navigators.

For more information on the event see our website

The Rugged Rogaine Series is a fun way to explore the beautiful Waikato countryside, experience an adventure sport, practice map reading and navigation, and improve your fitness.

Run, jog, or walk – you set the pace
By yourself, in a team, or as a family
Fun adventure or a competitive challenge and race

What:
2, 4, & 8 hour rogaine through forestry using monitoring line tracks where teams have to find as many controls as they can in that time. The control points will vary so it is important to spend a bit of time planning a route. If you’re late back, points will be deducted for every minute you’re over the cut-off time. All races: 2, 4 and 8 hour must be done as a team (2-5 people, Men/Women/Mixed/Junior).

We provide you with:

A Rogaine map
A 2 hour, 4 hour or 8 hour Rogaine course
Electronic timing
The challenge: Visit as many checkpoints as you can in the time available. Some are worth more than others so make sure you choose the best ones to visit! Don’t be late back as you will lose points!

The event is pre-entry only.
