Hamilton Civic Choir presents “Slàinte Mhath” as the third concert in our 2024 season!   Dedicated to celebrating the Scottish diaspora throughout the world, it will be an unforgettable evening on Saturday, September 21st, 4:00 PM at the Cambridge Town Hall, and will feature guest choirs Vox from local Cambridge High School and award-winning Nota Bella from Westlake Girls High School in Auckland.
This concert will present a captivating selection of music and will take you on a journey around the globe to locales where Scottish communities have grown and flourished over time. From Canadian and New Zealand sea shanties such as “Drunken Sailor” (arr. Rabinovitch) and “Blood Red Roses” (arr. Mews), and folk songs like “Greensleeves” (arr. Chilcott) and a medley of them in “A Scottish Tribute” (arr. Spevacek), to sacred choral music from Poland “Sanctus & Benedictus” (by Penderecki) and Australia “Festive Alleluia” (by Williams), as well as music with a bit of swing such as “Kyrie from A Little Jazz Mass” (by Chilcott) and Piazolla’s “Libertango” from Argentina (arr. Escalada) – and many more! Accompanied by piano, there will also be select pieces with percussion as well as music featuring Scotland’s national instrument, the bagpipes!

Joining us for this Scottish diaspora celebration, we are honoured to host two treble choirs: Vox from Cambridge High School, conducted by Hamilton Civic Choir member Jayne Tankersley, and Nota Bella from Westlake Girls High School in Auckland, conducted by our very own Elise Bradley. Both choirs will perform their own pieces, separate and together, and then will join with Hamilton Civic Choir at the end for a special arrangement created for this very concert, “In a World of Peace” by New Zealand composer David Hamilton.
