harness-jewells cambridge-isiteCambridge is a main centre for harness racing with many trainers of standardbreds based near the town.

Cambridge has produced many champion pacers over the years, including Young Quinn who was trained at our local track by Charlie Hunter in the 1970s.

Young Quinn took out the 1975 Inter Dominion Pacers Series and beat the best in New Zealand, Australia and the United States.

The Cambridge Raceway, Taylor St, hosts about 25 harness race meetings a year, as well as about 30 greyhound racing meetings.

The main tenant of the track is the Cambridge Harness Racing Club, formed in 1919, amalgamated with the Te Awamutu Harness Racing Club in 1998.
