Cambridge's central location and access to flat roads, recreational waterways and ample sports fields means the local economy often benefits from international, national and regional sporting events.

Lake Karapiro has been used to stage world rowing championships, while it's common for world-class equestrians, cyclists and other sportspeople to visit Cambridge in pursuit of titles.

It's no wonder Waipa District calls itself the "Home of Champions."

Cambridge residents love their sport whether it's an enjoyable way to keep fit and meet people, or whether they are among those aiming to join the growing list of sporting heroes whose achievements are celebrated in plaques in the town's Sporting Walk of Fame along Duke Street.

A 2010 survey revealed that four out of ten locals exercise for more than 30 minutes a day and four more do so two to four times a week. The town is home to dozens of sports clubs, is a regional hub for many sports and regularly hosts national tournaments.

Cambridge has several gymnasiums and fitness centres, and you can find somewhere to work out any hour of any day. Several physiotherapists and sports massage therapists are based in town.

A world class environment where our champions inspire participation of everyday people.
