A special place to meet
Cambridge is an excellent venue for staging all types of events from corporate functions to family gatherings.
We are one of the North Island's most popular destinations for events and functions. Not only is the town a beautiful place to spend time with friends or business colleagues, it provides all the modern facilities and services required for a successful event.
Cambridge is ideal for get–togethers of all sizes, whether you're planning a family reunion, a wedding or a business conference. The town's central location, ample accommodation and access to main highways and Hamilton Airport means Cambridge is increasingly becoming an attractive option for event planners.
Our town has several excellent venues able to cater for functions of between 35 and 350 guests.
These include the Cambridge Town Hall, Sarnia Park, No.1 Motels and The Riverside Motor Lodge & Conference Centre. St Peter's School can also make its facilities available outside of school term, catering for up to 400 guests at a time.
For bigger events, the Sir Don Rowlands Centre in the Mighty River Domain, beside Lake Karapiro, can hold up to 1,000 people while the Mystery Creek Events Centre can look after up to 25,000 visitors a day in its 113 hectares of halls and grounds.
Cambridge offers a large range of accommodation, including eight motels close to shops and restaurants, with more than 100 beds available.
The town offers about 75 bed and breakfast hosts, including town and country and self-contained accommodation, a backpacker lodge and luxury venues for those who want something special. You can compare rates and facilities online or by picking up brochures at the Cambridge i-SITE Information Centre.
Planning a function or major event in Cambridge is made easier by the experience and knowledge of venue owners.
The staff at most venues will be able to steer you to local suppliers for everything you might need, whether that's transport, photography or finding local accommodation.
Cambridge has a number of commercial caterers able to meet your food and drink needs if you plan to use a venue that doesn't supply its own catering. You can also hire party equipment - everything from BBQs to plates and cutlery - from hire companies in Cambridge or nearby Hamilton.
Guests travelling long distance can fly into Hamilton Airport, the country's fourth busiest airport with flights to/from all main centres, which is only 18 mins drive from Cambridge.
Intercity and Naked Bus provide bus connections with main centres and the nearest railway station is 25 mins drive away, in Hamilton.
If you need to hire vehicles, including 8 or 12–seater minibuses, you can contact Europcar in Oliver Street, Cambridge, or other rental companies based at Hamilton Airport (Thrifty, Hertz, Budget, Avis).
Every year, Cambridge plays host to a growing number of annual events.
Lake Karapiro is the venue for international, national and regional rowing regattas and other major water sports events such as the National Waka Ama Sprint Championships and February's New Zealand Grand Prix hydroplane races.
The town itself holds an Autumn Festival and two weeks of Christmas Festival activities. And throughout the year, the town becomes the venue for all types of sporting and recreational events, welcoming visitors and making them feel they've come home.
The largest event close to Cambridge is the annual National Agricultural Fieldays, held at Mystery Creek Events Centre in June, when more than 125,000 visitors flock to see more than 1,000 exhibits and spend four days focused on all things rural. In summer, Mystery Creek hosts the three-day Parachute music festival, drawing more than 20,000 music fans.
