We shouldn't forget either that our happy cows make millions of litres of milk a year that go to the Fonterra factories for making into dairy products sold throughout the world.
It's not just fresh product that puts the Cambridge name on people's tables. Monavale Blueberries, for instance, make everything from wine to jams and salad dressings with their organic fruit.
The town also has a number of professional caterers who are experienced at providing food for groups small to large. Cambridge's central location and abundance of venues means the town often hosts group events whether they are major sports tournaments, weddings or business conferences.
Though Cambridge people are well catered for, they also want to sample what the rest of the world has to offer. The town's supermarkets (Countdown, Fresh Choice and New World) have specialist sections for imported goods while Dante's Fine Foods in Duke Street imports gourmet products from more than 30 countries, including a range of specialist cheeses.
Cambridge is also home to a number of small traders who make specialist products - they can often be found at the Farmers Market at Victoria Square on Saturday mornings.
